IT'S ALL OVER!!

I passed all of my exams last week (28/30 average, not that bad) and in spite of being an expert on most aspects of international law now (or did you know that the law applicable to an international economic contract can --in Italy-- be chosen in accordance with law nr. 218/1995 which harks back to the Roma Convention of 1980) the most important thing is that I'm off and have officially checked out of Siena.

Am now catching some breath at home and will be off to London on Wednesday morning. CIVILISATION!! No more guys in short skirts and leggings drumming you out of your sleep at half eight on a Sunday morning.

Starbucks, VirginMegaStore, Burger King, Underground Trains, bicycles, CIVILISATION!!

    Yeah, sure.
  • Well done RJ !

    Congratulations.

So do you have any travel plans?
You'd enjoy Malaysia even more 2nd time.
  • I'd jump onto that plane tonight BUT I'm redefining the word skint at the moment I'm afraid.

Should change in the next couple of weeks but that money will go towards the Robert-Jan Bartunek Postgraduate Studies Fund. Should I reach my target though I'll go there again, no doubt about it.
  • Congradulations RJ !!!!! Do I understand that your run as a "Professional Student" is coming to an end ???
    Say it isn't so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    murph
  • Good news :)! (at least, I hope you consider it to be)
    Congratulations man.

  • You're a crazy asshole RJ. I love ya to death but you're a city slicker! I'd kill to spend some time in Siena.
  • Im with Rj here, even when we were in Rimini i was missing Brum!! not enough amenities, places to go out and NO PUBS!! (apart from Larrys) But I wish we had Italys public transport system!!! on time!!

Some is the operative word here! A weeks enough for me. hehe

  • I'm with Jello on this one RJ.
  • try to stay there for a year and we'll speak again...
  • If only I could.
  • i for one will kiss the ground at Stansted Airport...

should I feel the urge for a place far away from everything with appalling connections to the rest of the country, where people long all year to see other people kill some poor horses in some phony horse race (yeah, let's call it tradition) and have not much else to talk about, I will reconsider Siena but I can't see that happen in the foreseeable future.

No doubt, it has some architectural gems but you've pretty much seen them after three hours. Honestly, three weeks ago some guy came down one of the hills with a bike and I nearly had a "what is that?" moment.

Nothing to do with Italy, Bologna seems such a nice place and when we went to the beach the other day it was really nice but Siena is just not all that...
  • seen one fit girl seen them all, hey????? ;);)
  • "one more year next year but it will be in a civilised place where people have real jobs."

But I thought you said you were going back to the UK??? :hehe:
  • Sparkling form, darling, sparkling.

I've been to Siena for a couple of times now and I find it a beautiful place. The countryside southeast of it (the Cretes?) is breathtaking. My wife and I have made some fantastic trips there (on mountainbikes;)).
But I reckon that when you're not a local and don't live there because you want to have a quiet life, even Siena can be boring after a few weeks (as almost every place in the world).
  • Fine, I'll go to Siena just to pick up on the babes from Emmett's side of the bay.
  • Jello - she was good looking but NOTHING compared to some of the home grown Ity girls we saw.

Remember the desk helpo at the hotel in Bologna?

I guess the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. RJ has lived in many places and I... well other than traveling with the machine I have only lived in San Francisco.

    But England RJ?
  • Good choice!! quality country!! hehe
  • Did any of the Minardifest crowd get pics of eiher of the two desk babes? I did not but ....
  • Dearest RJ, I can understant that, for a foreign student without a car (I reckon you had no car there) Siena can become a really boring place after a few weeks, when u basically know all the students (and especially if, as I've understood, you have not managed to pull any of them:hehe:).

But, to be honest, I spent 4 months of my life in Aberdeen (loved it), and another year in Nottingham (liked it, but really had to study a lot), and I would not be interested in moving again to the UK. Even though London must of course be different (if London is the place where you are going next year).

But if you want to find a place where REAL life is, why don't you come to Cairo.
Here it's pure life man, you can't kiss a girl on the street because it's forbidden and you risk to be fined by the police, and you don't get waken up at 8.30 by "guys in short skirts and leggings drumming you out of your sleep ", but at 4:30 by the muezzin tape (progress has arrived here as well, it's no more the guy really singing) shouting: "ALLLLLLAAAAAAAAH A AKBAAAAAAAAAR, ALLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, ALLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH".....

Yes RJ, if you complained about Siena, you should come here and stay not one, but TWO years:hehe::hehe:

  • Did any of the Minardifest crowd get pics of eiher of the two desk babes? I did not but ....
    ....they're etched into your memory?:hehe:
