Sunday qualifying to be axed
Teams agree to end current unpopular system

Formula One team bosses met at Monte Carlo yesterday and have all finally agreed to end the current Formula One qualifying system according to reports from the French AFP agency. In its place from the European Grand prix onwards will be a rather simpler system with just one single Saturday qualifying session to determine the grid order. The order of qualifying will be determined by the previous race result.

Michael Schumacher for one is in favour of a new simpler system claiming that it was not only the spectators that found the aggregate qualifying system unnecessarily confusing. Schumacher’s view are backed up by BMW boss Mario Theissen who is happy to see Saturday being the day to determine the grid line up and Sunday the race.

Bernie Ecclestone was behind the current aggregate system but from the outset the system proved unpopular with fans and television companies showed little interest in showing the additional Sunday morning qualifying system. Now it seems that at the third time of asking, Formula One is to revert to a more sensible qualifying procedure but it should be pointed out that for fans at the circuit on race day, they will lose a great deal of action.

The FIA has yet to confirm the decision made in the meeting, but an official announcement should be forthcoming.
Only 1 session on Saturday!!!:spank:
They should just go back to the 2003 system!!!!!!!
