  • Albers is pushing continuously he is within a couple of seconds of the trailing Jordan...
  • Freisacher within half a second of montiero .. nice lap!
  • Bugger Albers has stopped:(
  • Albers has ditched it in the gravel.
  • Albers almost the same with Kartikeyan:hehe:
  • Let's see if we can come closer still to the Yellow Submachines in the 2nd session.

Good job by Heidfeld BTW !!!
A shame that he will be demoted 10 places on Sunday:
    A mess for BMW

Nick Heidfeld, San Marino GP 2005© The Cahier ArchiveBMW has revealed a major problem for the Spanish Grand Prix and as a result the engines in both Nick Heidfeld's and Mark Webber's cars will need to have engine changes because of problems with a faulty exhaust valve. Two engines of a new specification are being assembled today in Munich and will be flown to Barcelona in time for practice tomorrow morning.

As a result of this Heidfeld will run on Friday and will get a drop of 10 places on the grid as a result. Mark Webber will not run on Friday and will only start work on Saturday morning. This will mean he avoids a drop of 10 places on the grid but may have a car that is not as well set-up as it could be.

Not a promising start to the weekend.

  • albers 1:20.9 but stopped
  • What happend??? is it possible to get him back in the pits?
  • Who is watching it live on the TV, is there a third PS05 for Albers, please i really think he can beat the Jordans in this practise
  • pf 1:20.8 - good lap
  • Albers can do 0.8 faster, hope he can be back at time
  • Albers can do 0.8 faster, hope he can be back at time
and how would you know that??

Patrick is'nt exactly sitting still is he??
  • I'm glad they are both good driver and are pushing each other - good for minardi
  • Cause i Know:hehe:
  • OHHHHH it great!!!
  • Oh look, Albers did go 0.8 sec faster :D
  • wow, we must have a medium here :hehe:

  • Hope PF will be near to Albers and the Jordans, maybe he can go faster now
  • Seems like the test last week was worth it - I knew we were better than we looked at Imola
  • Minardi seem to have a rocket with no wings as they have the fastest trap speed at the moment, 329kph, but are still down in 21st position.
    Comments from the live timing!!!!:D

Btw, Albers is faster as Doornbos and only 0.081sec behind Monteiro!!!
  • not anymore.....
  • Montoya just destroyed his car!!!!!!
    Right before the session ended.
And Pedro went 1sec. faster as the next driver with a 1:15.062

If we lookat Albers' distance to the fastest GP-driver, which is Heidfeld, we see a gap of 3 seconds.

Not bad. Could have been worse.

    :D
  • I think the guys did a fanstastic job today, we can beat one Jordan this weekend.

    FORZA
  • Very impressive. Middle section needs some tidying up. The first and third sectors are very good but when you look at the top speeds you can see why. PF 3 KPH faster than any other teams with Albers 2nd fastest. That's something to play with. If CA and PF are breaking demons into that first corner, we could actually see some overtaking by a Minardi.

  • Paddy fastest thru speed traps
    Albers second fastest
  • The results so far are very encouraging. Hopefully within a couple of races our pace will improve further (probably not in Monaco though).

Hopefully we have a chance of mixing it further with the Jordans in Q1 tomorrow!!
  • From Faenza:

    EDGING CLOSER

BARCELONA, SPAIN, May 6, 2005 – With both a two-day test at Mugello and a baptism of fire in the San Marino Grand Prix during the last two weeks, the Minardi Cosworth PS05 this weekend faces the challenge of the Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Catalunya, near Barcelona. It is a track with which drivers Christijan Albers and Patrick Friesacher are both familiar, even though the Minardi F1 Team does not test at the Spanish circuit with the frequency of many of its rivals. Today’s activities followed the normal pattern for the Friday of a race weekend, with Minardi drivers and technical staff working on developing a good chassis balance while assessing tyres, braking and software. Both cars were also fitted with a new rear wing configuration today. The drivers experienced differing fortunes in the two one-hour practice sessions, Friesacher enjoying a largely untroubled time throughout, while Albers suffered a non-damaging off-course excursion in the opening session and a gearbox downshift “glitch” in the second. Fortunately, quick work by the circuit corner workers had the car back at the Minardi garage in short order, allowing the problem to be rectified and Albers to carry on with his programme.

CHRISTIJAN ALBERS Best lap: 1 min 19.581 secs Position: 21st
“We had a normal day for a Friday, and although we lost some time this morning, and then a little more this afternoon, As a result, we weren’t able to try quite as many things as we would have liked, but hopefully, tomorrow we’ll be able to make up for the lost ground.”

PATRICK FRIESACHER Best lap: 1 min 20.686 secs Position: 20th
“Generally, it was not a bad day and we tried a couple of new things that worked well. I was struggling a little bit with the balance of the car today, and although we improved it as the day progressed, we will continue to work on this tomorrow and aim to find a good solution. I’d like to thank Bridgestone, because we were able to test quite a number of tyre compounds at the recent Mugello test, and that has helped quite a lot.”

PAUL STODDART, Team Principal, Minardi Cosworth
“Generally, it has been a productive first day in Spain as we continue to learn about, and make progress with, the PS05. The lap times came down steadily, and it is pleasing to see we have ended the day tantalisingly close to our nearest rivals. Our main goals this weekend are to consolidate the gains made on reliability at the Mugello test, while picking up the pace in order to close the gap to our competitors, On today’s evidence, we are progressing well. This is in large measure due to the hard work and long hours that continue to be put in by the Minardi mechanics and technicians, so once again, a big thank you to all of them for their unstinting efforts.”

Chassis allocation – 2005 Grand Prix of Spain
    Friesacher (No 20) PS05/02
    Albers (No 21) PS05/01
    Spare car (Albers) PS04B/04
  • Paddy fastest thru speed traps
    Albers second fastest
