Back from the camp...

Well after 2 1/2 weeks of being inside an army camp i off for three days to the real world....just begining to recover from last night bar crowling...since yesterday i am officially a soldier of the greek infantry....its tough in the camp, really hard staff sometimes, a lot of cold, but in my unit i have found some really good guys to hang out with....probably the best thing about the army is the laughs with the boys....army life sucks big time and noone can really prepare you about it...they have made me a leader in a team of 12 soldiers, all of them great guys which so far havent caused me any major problems.....probably the best part so far was firing with my G3 A3 and an HK-11, 30/30 bullets on target 26 on the centre, 100m distance not bad hey....?

I have been trying to figure out what happened with Cosworth and Jaguar...since the old meesages in the forum have been deleted can someone briefly tell me waht happened...?

its good to be back...hi to everyone

  • Has to be an NCO - O types are too good to actually deal with the troops. How many stripes or other types of markings?

    Your DI must not be too good or he would have beaten the chain of command into your heqads by now.

    BTW - I did not get a day off until 10 or 12 weeks when I went in.
  • Greco, forget all that Yank E/O type stuff, too bloody confusing. The Australian chain of command is the almost exactly the same as the Brit chain. The Aust Army doesn't have Colour SGT's.

    The Aust Army from Bottom to top is;

    Private = PTE
    Lance Corporal = L/CPL
    Sergeant = SGT
    Staff Sergeant = SSGT
    Warrant Officer Class 2 = WO2(Also Company Sergeant Major = CSM)
    Warrant Officer Class 1 = WO1(Also Regimental Sergeant Major = RSM)
    Regimental Sergeant Major of the Army = RSM-A(this is the man you want to piss off the least)

    RAAF from the bottom up;

    Aircraftman/Women = AC, AC/W

    Leading Aircraftman/Women = LAC, LAC/W

    Corporal = CPL

    Sergeant = SGT

    Flight Sergeant = FSGT

    Warrant Officer = WOFF

    Warrant Officer of the Air Force = WOFF-AF.

    Warrant Officer's in the Aust Def Force are not considered Officers, they are the top of the NCO heap. I believe in the US that WO's are considered Officers. Quig is that right.

    You'l notice I didn't mention the Navy, that's because they're just weird.

    Your DI type would be a Corporal or Sergeant I'd imagine. Just remember SGT's and Warrant Officers are the ones that really run the military, they just let the officers take the credit, or the blame.
  • BTW - I did not get a day off until 10 or 12 weeks when I went in.
    Solitary confinement will do that to a man!

    When did you get out of the French Foreign Legion? :P
  • Last weekend off....things have been way more tough this week, last night i was patroling pretty much all night.....the good thing is that the boys in my team have been excellent so far, we have been given some extra time off due to our good performance....probably next week they will send us in a unit near the Turkish borders and i can only hope that it will be in the mainland and not in some island....islands are tricky cause if you have some days off, and the weather is bad you might get stuck there....not to mention that i have a girl in Thessaloniki, and it would be more than nice to be able to see her often...

    Ozno thanks for the clarification....our rank system is similar to the british.....so we have an asshole of a Lance Corporal, our stafff Sergeant is a great guy, really taking care of us, WO2-1 good guys, but our Sergeant Major is a tough one....
  • No worries Greco. L/CPL's are a pain, they're not quite a full NCO yet, but they like to think they run the place. The more senior NCO's are usually prety good blokes, they've been around a while and know how the system works and are usually just more concerned about getting in and getting the job done, than trying to impress people. They tend to worry a lot less about the bullshit, and just concern themsleves with the here and now.

    Sergeant-Major's are supposed to be tough, they do extra classes in tough course at Sergeant-Major school......... :)

    I you head to a unit neaar the border, just remember to duck! :hehe:
  • How lovely it is to see the 'other ranks' enjopying themselves so much.
  • As I said to old boss of mine one day, "Sir we've got you lovely office, how 'bout you go back there and let the workers get on with making this shitfight happen. when it's done we'll let you know, and you can come out and take the credit."

    No wonder it's taken this long to make SGT!!!! :(
  • How lovely it is to see the 'other ranks' enjopying themselves so much.
    I should have known you were an O.
  • "How lovely it is to see the 'other ranks' enjopying themselves so much."

    And ignoring the inept spelling of those above us......... :spank:
