Pastorelli to test Minardi tomorrow
Another Dutchie ;)
New Euro 3000 champion Nicky Pastorelli will receive his prize drive with Minardi tomorrow [Tuesday], adding another possible outlets for his talents in 2005.
The Dutchman clinched the F3000 crown at the last gasp, overhauling season-long leader Fabrizio del Monte at the final round in Germany. Since then, he has tested the new Formula Superfund car, ventured to America, where he impressed Champ Car team owner Derrick Walker with his pace in a Reynard-Ford, and attracted attention from several other series.
Pastorelli will add F1 to the list when he joins Paul Stoddart's team at Misano tomorrow. The 20-year old is expected to drive one of last year's PS04Bs during the test.
Minardi has already signed one Dutch driver for the coming season, with Christijan Albers - who tested alongside Pastorelli at Walker - having inked a deal to move to F1 from the DTM. While a second Netherlander would not be an impossibility at Faenza, it is not expected that the test will lead to an offer - unless Pastorelli really impresses.
However, the former kart ace is understood to have attracted the attention of a second F1 team following his recent performances, leading to speculation that he could be a target for Jordan. The team enjoyed backing from IT company Trust in 2004, and has already tabbed countryman Robert Doornbos for testing duties.
