Facts:
- Gian Carlo Minardi controlled the F1 team for only nine years of the 21.
- the rest of the time it was a bunch of investors/chancers (Luchinni, Briatore, Rumi, Stoddart).
- the Faenza factory is still the same bunch of people except they now have more resources.
So, my question. Why do we get uptight about the name change? In reality we should thank Red Bull for ending the pretence it was 'Minardi' and tarnishing the 'brand'.
Where was the anger when Flavio tried to sell us down the river to BAT? Or Rumi to Telefonica (and a move to Spain)?
I am not a fan of Red Bull but is it not better, certainly for the people at Faenza, that the team is run properly and they are paid on time, have new tools, etc.? OK, so Faenza will become an 'assembly plant' but what was so great about the last ten years that was worth preserving?
I now think the Minardi name was actually dragged through the mud unnecessarily and that was partly his fault.
