Berger not interested in Minardi
From Autosport -
Gerhard Berger revealed that he had turned down the option of running Red Bull's second team in Formula One, because he believes the company's primary motivation is marketing.
Red Bull bought Minardi from Paul Stoddart last month at the Belgian Grand Prix, spurring immediate speculations that Austrian Berger will be put in charge of the new team.
But the former F1 driver and BMW motorsport director has told Autosport's Nigel Roebuck that he decided against this due to incompatible ambitions.
"[Red Bull owner, Dietrich] Mateschitz is an old friend of mine - actually, I was the first 'Red Bull' driver, back in the mid-eighties - and I've watched the company grow and grow," Berger said.
"But my idea for the team was to be successful, and make some money, whereas Red Bull's big motivation is marketing. I've no problem with that, but I didn't want to be involved on that basis."
Red Bull have yet to announce their planned changes for Minardi - including the name of the team, the leading staff and the drivers line-up.
