Japanease GP

What did everyone think of the GP?

Wasn't kimi supposed to drop 10 places. He qualified 17th and started 17th. Wasn't he supposed to be 20th.

Just read on F1 live that the stewards investigated JV for JPM's crash. JV had nothing to do with it. The FIA seem to be favouring Mclaren a bit.

  • You can't drop many places when the people behind you don't set a time. I think it's fair he was last of the timed runners. Trulli started from the pitlane anyway.

JV got penalised 25 seconds for not looking in his mirrors and shoving JPM off the track. I'm speaking as someone a little gutted that Fisichella didn't win (how on earth did he throw away that lead?!), but the decision was in my view fair.

And Sato was excluded from the results, because he was driving very poorly.

Oh, and the grand prix was the best F1 race I've seen since GB 2003. And not a track invader in sight.

How about Minardi? Doornbos sneaking past Karthikeyan in the last couple of laps, and Albers catching fire in the pits, yet still continuing.

    Terrific stuff!
  • I just watched a summary of the race.
Didn't catch the race live (it was at 07h and i went to bed at 06h) !!

Seemed like one hell of a race.
Kimi and Fernando sure know hoe to overtake.

Ralf is a hoax ! Starting from pole and finishing 8th:o

    Japanese G.P. - The race

    WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN

    SUZUKA, JAPAN, October 9, 2005

Minardi F1 Team drivers Robert Doornbos and Christijan Albers started today’s Japanese Grand Prix in strong enough fashion, having climbed to 14th and 12th places respectively by the time they made their first pit stops. Both men picked the pace up further during the following stints, but then problems arose during the second round of pits stops that ultimately changed the complexion of the race for the Faenza squad. First, Doornbos overshot his pit box, with the result that the front jack man sustained a bruised leg, while the following lap, Albers also missed the stop marks as he came into the pits. This led to a problem locating the refuelling nozzle, with the result that a small amount of fuel spilled on the hot bodywork and immediately burst into flames. The fire was extinguished quickly, and fortunately, no serious injuries resulted, but Albers lost two laps while the situation was sorted out. In his final stint, Doornbos made amends for his earlier mistake by overtaking Karthikeyan’s Jordan at the chicane on lap 43. He claimed 15th place at the chequered flag, while his delayed team mate made up some ground, but finished 17th.

    ROBERT DOORNBOS
    Position: 15
    Time: 1 min 36.574 secs Chassis: PS05/02
“It was a good race. We brought it to the chequered flag, so I’m happy about that. My rhythm when the Safety Car first came out, though, was not as good as it could have been. I still have to learn a more about how the tyres react in such situations, but the result was that I wasn’t able to push as hard as I would have liked once the race restarted. After the first pit stop, though, I started to push hard, and was able to pass Karthikeyan’s Jordan in the last chicane, which was good motivation. Finally, I have to say sorry to the pit crew, as I lost a bit of concentration, missed my braking point for the second pit stop, and clipped one of my mechanics, Roberto Venturi. I now know that he is okay, if bruised, but I’m relieved for that”.

    CHRISTIJAN ALBERS
    Position: 17
    Time: 1 min 36.039 secs Chassis: PS05/01
“I was having a really good battle with the Jordans and had a faster car, but unfortunately, I made a mistake when I overshot the marks during my second pit stop. That led to a refuelling problem and the fire, which effectively put paid to my race. Apologies to the team, and in particular, to the front jack man, Sandro Parrini, and the refuellers”.

PAUL STODDART, Team Principal, Minardi Cosworth

“Today really was ‘the one that got away’, as we clearly had a faster race car than Jordan, but due to mistakes by both drivers in their second pit stops, we weren’t able to capitalise on our advantage. The team did derive some satisfaction, however, from the fact that three former Minardi drivers finished in the top four positions of today’s race”.

    race.....has everyone deserted already?????????
  • Still here!

That was a great race. Kimi, Alonso, Webber and Schui had great performances. Button just dropped off after he lost a place to Webber, and Alonso wasn't held at all by the BAR.

Did Coulthard jump the start? I'm not sure and I don't have a reply to consult. Anyway good drive from him as well.

The best performance came from the Williams pit crew, that was slick, both times!

Good on our soon to be defunct drivers, we beat at least one of the Jordan's again!

Albers played hot potato (or was he the potato?) for a while and still got back out there.

    FORZA Minardi!!!

  • Good race. It was worth getting up early. It really did help that a lot of the fast cars started at the back, so there is a lesson to be learned I guess.

I found it disappointing that Alonso didn't give Kimi all the credits for his victory. He was moaning a bit about traffic (as if Raikkonen had a clear track all the time) and bad team tactics. I think that's a pity because he did a great race and it looks bad on him being the -deserved- WC of this season.
  • I have nearly deserted but I still come here occasionally!:(
  • Kimi was fantastic.

A great race and well worth getting up early for. Plus due to the saturday night hangover I didn't fall asleep.

Alonso will never give another driver credit. He is to cocky.

Kimi is my 2005 Champ. The car has let him down so much this season and still he has been the stand out man.

I thought Schumacher was fantastic. Some brilliant defensive driving. I thought he was going to get hammered by the Renault and Mercedes down the straight but he just kept with it.

I thought that Alonso's pass on Schumacher wasn't that special, it looked easier to overtake on the Outside there than it didn on the Inside. But the set up for the overtake was good. Same as down the straight, the set up for the pass on Webber was great. Very brave stuff.

Fisi gave Kimi the win with his weird line through the Chicane. That was only going to work if he could slow Kimi down. But I think Kimi gave himself some space so he could have better momentum into the last corner.

Flavio must be fuming...how long is Fisi's contract?
  • IIRC he has a contract until the end of 2006.
  • it was a very nice race, it was worth wakong up at 7 on sunday
Kimi, Schu and alonso were fantastic
    bravo webber too
  • I have not deserted - I was exiled to the land of no TV, no MAC - hell you can't get a decent AM radio signal there.

Saw the race last night on tape. Pretty amazing stuff - I too am bummed for Fisi but it was his to lose and ....well he lost it.

Our gang - pretty good fight with the yellow cars - and the resolve to keep going after the fire was great - remember when that happened to Bruni? he just walked away.

  • Yeah, but Bruni inhaled the fumes etc. from the fire extinguisher.
Found this pic, Albers on fire:

  • Yes - I forgot about that. Sorry Gimi!
  • Doornbos overtaking Narain.

  • Great shot! Too bad the world feed did not even show it - and the broadcasters therefore made no mention of it.
  • God, that's beautiful.
  • Due to a number of technical difficulties, I do not have a recording of either Bathurst, or Suzuka (which were telecast consecutively).

I am not at all happy and have informed the GLW (good lady wife) that there will be no more Sunday outings during day races.

  • When I convert it to DVD I can send you a copy - but that won't be quick.
  • Lease, I have a copy of both races if you want?

Of course you will be required to answer a few highly personal questions, just to ensure your credit rating is up to scratch - 5 forms of identification (Video and porn library cards are not valid forms of ID)

And heavy penalties for late returns.

  • Thanks Roo. Please rush me my copy of 'How to get chicks in 5 easy lessons', now!

Question: Do you fish? I'm thinking of doing an overnight trip on the bay one Saturday. Lots of piss, BBQ, and, er...........some fishing.

The boat is just about ready now and with the accommodation, it will be perfect for something like this.

    Interested?
  • I guess it depends on how you interpret fish?

    Sounds like a plan.

Just got to make sure the GLW doesn't tape Australian Idol over the races!!!

Lease, 'How to get chicks in 5 easy lessons' is still out and way overdue. SIMON!!!!
  • Hang on, hang on ...

(BTW Roo, don't let Skipper take you onto his 'Poop Deck')
  • Roo,

Since you have a copy of the race, can you check whether DC did in fact jump the start? I didn't think so , but Webbo (who was right beside him) reckons "he went two weeks early!" to use his apparent quote. I thought they have some electronic measure to ensure no can jump the start and get away with it anyway.

  • Thank you. I await your report...;)
  • Albers didn't walk he ran.

The mechanic called him but albers didn't come. The mechanic then went inside and Albers came out.
