Holy dogshit. Category 5. Can't seem to catch a break here, anybody in the path, keep your heads down.

BTW - if global warming is the cause of all this terrible weather and the US is the cause of global warming why don't we get thank you notes when everything is bright and warm?
What does your former Governor say to the fact the number of category 4/5 hurricanes has nearly doubled in the past 35 years? Completely unrelated to human behaviour?
I am encouraged that more and more scientists of repute are at last going vocal over the crass stupidity of Bush on global warming.
The slow learning professional doubters in the US are causing the world to wait too long to start action. It is time they were told that their mind-set is stuck back in the fifties and sixties when the problem wasn't recognised.

Why can't all the other countries do things without the USA ????:spank:
Also any US members taping the race? Hopefully will have power and be able to catch the race but if not I would like to get a copy of it.
Thanks,
Telstar
There is near world concensus on global warming, with most countries other than the US, Australia and a few allies of the US who are taking action, are trying to develop a gobal strategy but can't get the worlds major polluter to join the club
The US is the largest contributor to the harmful greenhouse gas emissions. The US approach has been widely seen as refecting the views of powerful industry captains who deny the greenhose gas link to global warming and climate change.
I can tell you as one who works in the industry, that within companies and research institutes there are very concerned specialists who understand the problems, but in the end it is the "bottom line" that rules and the true costs don't show in that bottom line yet.
Now the problem is that unless the biggest contributor to the problem commits, others see their efforts as largely futile, because while they may hold their own emission levels, the US will continue to worsen the problem.
China, Japan, Europe, Russia all understand the problem and may overtake the US in developing solutions, but we're concerned about the time it will take to reverse the short term damage being done by inaction at the moment.
What about China and India?
Do we want to wait unitl they overtake the US in their gross emission levels? I think not. US leadership is needed now, while it can influence global practice. But once again US leadership and credibility is going down the drain and up in smoke.

The magnitude is such that a tsunami will NOT be generated, according to preliminary information from the tsunami warning centre, but just imagine a tsunami on top of Rita's storm surge.
Guess we should be grateful for small things.

1. You have not taken the bait on why , when good weather presents itself you do not write a thank you note to us US polluters
and
2. when are you going to require china and India to be signatories to Kyoto - after all hidining behind this bullshit of developing countries is laughable
and
3. why do you bust W's balls when Clinton gave you lip service but did not support it in our Senate - and remember too you ferign devils that the President of the US is not the one to make international treaties - our Senate does.,
So - the vote UNDER Clinton was something like 99 - 0 against. Whose fault was that?
Forza! (but not Storm Forza)
That is why you lost and we won - remember the basis for the shot heard 'round the world.
Guns, Katrina and New Orleans didn't make for a great recipe. Yes, I believe in using guns ... in a war, not a civil emergency. However, the US of A will never snap out of its Wild West delusion on this one. I love you all, but ...
re: climate change. I'm not a tree-hugger, as you know, but if Bush doesn't acknowledge climate change after this then he never will. US consumption of fossil fuel simply has to come down. China and India will never do anything on their own.
1) You were actually serious?
2) China will, as soon as the US. I worked with a marine scientist from the China 2nd Institute of Marine Science and belive me, those guys know what this is about. Their Government also can act quickly and I suspect they are already working on technical solutions while the US remains in denial.
3) Try to understand that this is not about politics. The only ways to force the politicians into action are:
1) money, and we can't compete with big business
2) public opinion
Why Bush and not Clinton? Bush is still President, Clinton is not.

Anyways the power is fine at my location, just wind and light rain last night. Have food and water, and glad that I don't have to deal with the traffic that will be coming back here.
Thanks for offering MCSF, with the power on I will be able to see the GP. Also we are armed, not as much as I would like, but we do have a functioning Police force.
