MBA Programmes

I know that RJ can help me on this or other scholars!

I would like to try my luck in an MBA programme - Masters in Management or something like that. And I would like to do so by distance learning, without leaving the island if possible...

do you have any ideas what is best at the moment, Maastricht, Henley, other universities?

(no, I did not go out of my mind!:D)

  • One of the more important values in an MBA program is broadening one's knowledge base.

I think it is preferable to take a program which gives you interaction with disciplines other than your own first discipline. In management, mixing with marketers, accountants, lawyers, engineers, etc adds to the learning experience.

Team exercises, role playing, group assignments where you open your views to peer critique helps this process.

I'm not sure how you achieve this with distance learning. Just keep in mind that an MBA is as much about development as it is about mastering subject matter. Maybe those programmes which involve a period of campus work after a year or two of private study would fill the bill.

...and be prepared for a career change. That usually follows.
  • Neil - for a commie you sure are soundig like a Capitalist. What do you need a MBA for in a society where the means of production is controlled by the Statae and from those who have to those who need yadda yadda yadda?

Oh, I see. You want to learn how to take from hardworking people and give to lameo's MORE effectively.
  • obviously... according to the FT it's one of the best in Britain

    what's your GMAT score, Neil?
  • Dr. Spin, your point about distance learning is valid, that's why I am looking at the best way to do it, before actually applying. Henley and Maastricht Universities offer tutorials in Malta, for example, through their representatives here. This can be a good alternative to the campus, I believe.

RJ, Bath doesn't seem to offer distance learning from what I can see. Also what is GMAT?

  • the only thing I know about the school of management is that it's the faculty with the fittest girls so for any further questions you should contact them directly. Gmat stands for Graduate Management Admission Test and no school that takes itself seriously will let you in without taking one. It's a lot of maths, not too hard though, and some writing

i think those standardised tests are a load of bull but schools seem to like them as an extra filter
  • thanks for helping me out, now i have to sit down and decide.
  • I am trying for the Edinburgh MBA...

three years but with a lot of flexibility...
  • University of Texas at Austin....... University of Michigan.....University of Pennsylvania......Dartmouth College......... all are great schools......... pretty surprised that RJ hasn't attended any US colleges as of yet......I'm sure that once he has spent a year at the 1 or 2 universities in Europe he hasn't been to yet, we can expect him out our way......
  • But Neil - what does a commie DO with an MBA? I must know!
  • MSCF, you surely need some basic introduction about ideologies.

    1. You put everyone who do not agree with you under one label; a Commie. Well you have the right to do that, but reality is not like that. Have you heard about Social Democratic Parties? Well, I know this concept is not utilised in the US (;)), but in Europe, this is a great trend which is acquiring successes. The aim is to create a good balance between the economy AND THE SOCIAL CONCEPT and WITHOUT touching the latter.

    2. Socialism is all about giving the best possible chances for good education to EVERYONE. At least, let me give you examples from Malta. It was the Socialist Party that made SCHOOL COMPULSARY and to EVERYONE. Before that, it was only for the elite. It was the Socialist Party that invested heavily in the social spheres like giving people a decent pension after all those years at work. Before, poeple who retired from work where given only the chance to beg. It was the Socilaist Party who gave the women their rights as against the conservative parties who always said that the women place is in the kitchen and a lot more.......

    3. Also I need to understand your systems to be able to punch you better;) therefore the MBA will help....

    Q.E.D.

  • Neil , buddy, you didn't have to give me the happy horseshit manifesto. Something along these lines would have been OK - and probably closer to the truth:

"You know Quig, when I first came on the boards I was a real "bring it all down man!" kinda commie. But lately I am starting to see how things are all shaking out. Guys my age that are getting degrees and are entering business are the ones with the flash cars and fancy threads and chicks that... well chicks that don't smell bad AND put out!

I want in on that Quig so I am changing from my dyed in the wool communist beliefs to a more moderate "Social Democracy" stance. You know work from the inside man to help mold the world to the way I would like to see it.

Oh, and have booze and chicks and money at the same time."

Here are some pictures to help make my point:

    image

The guy who owns this boat and who can nail this chick damn near anytime he chooses either HAS an MBA or has MBA's working for him. Not bad.

    image

This guy....well he does NOT have an MBA. Hell he probably does not have a job. He does not stand a chance with the girl in picture 1

"Hi Neil. Glad you are thinking of coming over to our side. Go on, listen to Old Uncle Quig and work hard, get that MBA. When you do pop on by and say hi - we can party!
  • Dear Uncle Sam,
I am writing this letter with tears in my eyes.
Please accept my humble apologies for being a leftist.
Call me what you like, a Commie, a Sociliast.
I deserve to be spanked because I am a baddy.
Maybe you can keep me without any trial at Guantanamo Bay.
    Bring back the inquisition time!

    Dear Uncle Sam,
I am trying to rehabilitate myself you know.
What will be the cost of total redemption?
    Sorry for bothering you.
I know you are busy with the Iraqi Solution!

    Once again I beg you,
    I have been profusely wrong.
Beat me, beat me, beat me!

  • Booze and chicks and money works every time.

Is your wife aware of that?
  • quig's been watching scarface too many times...
