Schumacher dumped to the back of the grid

Michael Schumacher has been dumped to eighth on the grid for the incident at the end of qualifying. The FIA Stewards decided after seven and a half hours.

  • Even if it was deliberate. I'm not sure if there's any rule against this kind of "cheating"

From what I've heard, it's been done before.

  • Well, good.

Probably should have been more severe, but justice is served just the same.
  • Has anyone figured out... *why* he'd do it on purpose? Even if Alonso had the theorized pole lap, why would Schumacher risk losing many places as opposed to the one?
  • ^ Because he's the devil incarnate.
    He even eats children:(
  • It's a real shame shame that any athlete with so much unquestionable talent feels they have to resort to that sort of behaviour. I'm afraid sportspeople are feeling so much pressue to perform they feel that winning must be achieved at any cost.

It's sad, very wrong, but an unforntuate product of today's big money focus on success. From Senna, to Maradonna and many others, they have all had their part in actions such as this, but Schumacher has just done it too many times.

for me, he is one fo the greatest talents to ever driver an F1 car, but he will never be thought of just for his talent. He will always be dogged by these unsporting incidients. I completely understand JV's comments on the subject (see planet-f1.com) as of course he is one of the drivers still racing that was on the receiving end of one of Schui's 'stupid' actions.

As JV said: "He didn't need to do that, he's a seven times world champion, he was on pole position. Why do that? It's only going to make him look bad."

"This is so obvious. When you do something on purpose like that it is very extreme. You should not be allowed to drive a race car when you do stuff like that.

"This is embarrassing. Embarrassing for a world champion. It would even be embarrassing for Ide."

And Kimi was also quotable by saying: it would have been less obvious if he steered with one hand and covered the camera with the other!
  • The ruling is absurd.

The formula's name should be changed from Formula 1 to Flavios' 1.

The real shame is Flavio. He can't stand to lose.

It wasnt just Flavio who complained about Schummis antics

Stop being so bitter Neil ;)
  • A leopard can't change his spots. Can we finally have some acceptance on this forum, please, that Schumi is a flawed genius?

Best driver ever? He never was and he never will be.

Because it wasn't just Alonso that likely would have gotten him.

    Alonso, Webber, Fisi.....

1st to 4th. At Monaco, it was worth it in MS's eyes.
  • Do you have split times to back that up..?
  • I'm totally with Viges, Petrol, TasM, Xiloa, etc. on this!
The Ferrari team comments were utter BS.

No one says a driver can't make a mistake, but a deliberate "mistake" like sudden unexpected braking and parking shouldn't give you pole over other worthy competitors who had their runs spoilt.

MS continues to display his attitude problem.

A 7 times "Champion" has had ample time to change, if he'd wanted too.

do I need them to satisfy you?

it's been reported widely in the F1 press from people that DO have those times.

all three drivers were on faster laps and had to abort.
  • Why so defensive? Obviously I haven't seen those reports and I'd like to.
  • I'm with Jello on this.
  • I saw it as an accident.

    But, ......

when he stod there in that corner he must have thought.. Hey this is a good place to stay. I can retain my pole.
  • Didn't Senna qualify on pole once, and then actually crash the car in order to ruin everyones final hot lap and maintain pole?

Exactly. Had he not been on pole I'm sure he would have gotten back into it and made it to the start/finish to get another lap in and simply taken the fuel penalty.

Senna stuffed it on purpose once, yeah. Don't recall which race.
  • These are surely the incidents that will mar his legend.

It's not the first time that he has used the Monaco track to try this one on. Was it two years ago that he blocked the track back up at Casino after a spin?

There can be little doubt over the intent on this one methinks.

What is terribly sad is the motivation. I'm sure that the Swervemaker would have been thinking (or perhaps thinking can include his earpiece) about the corporate image, more than personal gain when pulling this off. It is truly just one more of the pieces of evidence that money RUNS the sport.
  • Well well, look who the cat dragged in......Welcome friend.

Schuey should do the honourable thing and retire!

Since he has no honour, expect him to stick around for another two years.

  • Well, it's only because RJ - who should be fined for third-line forcing - has taken to trolling in order to increase business.
  • Shame.
  • i beg your pardon?
  • Now he's begging!
  • i'm curious guys on how schumi was supposed to turn right when his steering wheel was already as far as it could go and there would have been no way he could have gotten out of that situation without damaging the car. it doesn't have a reverse. but schumi is the best. who else can pass at monaco in the dry.
  • The reason he couldn't turn right was because he was too busy turning left.

These are the reasons the stewards found him guilty.
    1. At the moment that Schumacher's Ferrari was only driving 16km/h, the German turned his steering wheel to the left to put his F248 on the racing line so he would block the drivers approaching Rascasse.

    2. In Rascasse he pushed the brakes 50% harder in the last lap than he did in all the other laps during qualifying.

    3. Schumacher declared that he tried to put his car in reverse but that the engine switched off. On the footage you can see that the car hopped forwards, so this could only mean that the car was in first gear.

    4. Schumacher pointed out that, just like any other car on the grid, his Ferrari engine shuts down automatically after the car stands still for 10 seconds. This is a required safety regulation for the FIA, but it is also required that a button is present that allows the driver to override this setting and leave the engine running. All drivers are aware of that button because they have to use it in case they spin off. Why did Schumacher all of a sudden forget about this button?

According to Verdegay these where the 4 reasons why Schumacher was found guilty and was penalised.

From the onboard he fumbles arround. Sureley he knows where reverse is!!
It looks like he presses a button (possibly accidently) on the right hand side of the cockpit and the engine stops.

Anyone know where the kill swich should be??
