  • Great work. This is the first time we have seen the cars be genuinely competitive in three years.

I also think we can put some of gap to the rest of the field down to B,Stones lack of grip. However looking at past races the Minardis should get faster as the race progresses, assuming they get that far.

Everything crossed for tomorrow, I hope the boys have another great day.
  • Minardi appear to have added a small flip up onto the rear crash structure, similar to the top teams. Haven't seen a picture from the back yet though so I can't be sure.
    Been looking for it and:

Just below the rear wing in the center. Nice to see the team is still pushing forward with development.
  • I think it has been good for the team to have the time from the last race to concentrate on the car - without any distractions. Time to go through the data and it looks like it has worked. Just remember how bad the PS04 was at monaco!!!
  • Change that boys - Friesacher now 13th and Albers 14th as Montoya will be sent to the rear of the grid! :D
  • Narain Karthikeyan qualified in 17th position but will start from the back of the grid tomorrow due to an engine change
From Jordan press release, so the boys only have to worry about Tiggy in Q2.
  • been really busy over the past two weeks so haven't been around here much. But, getting on today and seeing we are in front of the Jordanski... then reading their forum to see what they think... it's pretty sad for them, but bloody brilliant for us.

Hopefully this can start some sort of escalation.
  • I echo everyone's comments - brilliant stuff!

Imagine if we were on Michelins...... we'd be in the 1:17s. :(

Oh well, if they can sort the gearbox issues we could have a decent car for the rest of the year. Small mercies.

Anyone know if we're running the new gearbox yet, or are they still waiting for parts?
  • its a real shame things deteriorated with Michelin. The best we can hope for now is either...

    1. Bridgestone Testing Budget
    2. Control Tyres
    3. New Tyre Manufacturers

If we were on Michelins we would have a bit of a gap to Jordanski.

Supposedely now the new gearbox has been used since day one. I think Alberto was mistaken when he told me otherwise.
  • albers ahead of both...

    yeeha
  • They've done it! They made it stick! Bravo Minardi! Forza!
  • and paddy goes faster again... let's hope we haven't compromised strategy for qualifying glory.
  • Woohoo!!! :D

Looks like those Jordans are bloody heavy - if they go longer than us, we're going to get jumped in the race. :o
  • Mission 2 completed!

Now finger crossed for the gearbox reliability during mission 3: the most important.

    FORZA MINARDI!:D
  • yes and no... If they go too far with fuel then they have to hop off the racing line sooner, before we have pitted.

being lapped in expensice in Monaco.
  • I would imagine that both teams are on 1 stops. Let's not forget too that this race may very well have a safety car period. That's a pit stop without the 25+ seconds disadvantage, if we are indeed on a 2-stopper.

Man, this feels like Indy 2004 all over again, and it's only qualifying. :D

  • Driver/Q1/Q2/Diff

    Karthikeyan 69.414 73.968 +4.554
    Monteiro 69.408 73.67 +4.262
    Albers 69.229 72.977 +3.748
    Friesacher 68.574 72.236 +3.662

I think we'll be fine. The PS05 also seems to have cured the PS04's handling-with-fuel problems.
  • Heres hoping with a good grid position and a reduced field, we may even get a bit of air time for the sponsors. Looks like another late night.

    Good work guys.

P.S. Can we burn StoddieBasher at the stake yet????
    ;)

  • Whoopee, Bravo Minardi.

What with Arsenal winning the FA Cup and now this - Fan-bloody-tastic. Note of caution on the fuelling though - we must not let Jordan jump us by running longer. Otherwise, brilliant. Well done to the boys and girls and to Paddy in particular.

On Jordanski ... The Observer correspondent says Schnaider is leaving suppliers unpaid left, right and centre and so desperate to bail out. Expect Irv to front another Ruskie syndicate. Useful for all of us to take a step back and appreciate what EVERYONE at Minardi is achieving in the current climate.

P.S. JPM and Ralf start together at the back! And who was JPM brake-testing at Massenet yesterday? You got it!

    FORZA MINARDI!
  • When was the last time we were so high on the grid ??

    Ten years ago ??
  • C'm on guys, we can make it, we can make it!!!:D
  • Montoya and Ralfie at the back into the first corner at Monaco.

    Oh dear............
  • Come on guys, make our dreams come true!

    FORZA!
  • Friesachers lap was a fight. Even the Finnish commentators were excited.
  • Think about this guys -

If the Ferrari's are this wretched on Bridgestones, how far up the grid would we be on Michelins? :(
  • Not much higher I'm afraid. Liuzzi is almost four seconds away (3,7sec). That's about two seconds per qualifying.
  • Montoya and Ralfie at the back into the first corner at Monaco.

    Oh dear............
Makes me double happy that we qualified ahead of the Jordans. It's nice to have a two-car padding between our boys and the wreck maniacs at the back row..

Thanks for the team for this amazing time so far, looking forward for it to continue!
  • Superstitious, anyone? I took down posters to put this up, to celebrate our 'victory'. Some good luck too, perhaps? Sorry for the large file size. :(
