So, now that Red Bull have sold out the other dissenters and taken the Sauber place at FIAT's knee, what becomes of Cosworth and thus, us?

From what i've read, Cosworth have got their 2.4 V8 well and truly underway, so you wouldn't think they are going to just dump it would you? But who are they set to supply if it isn't Minardi exclusively, which surely they'd be loath to do.

TOIT = TOIT
Williams = BMW
McLaren = Mercedes
Sauber = BMW
Toyota = Toyota
Jordan = Toyota
Red Bull = TOIT
BAR = Honda
Renault = Renault
Minardi = Cosworth??

The entity known as Team Dubai = Mercedes?????

I can't see Cosworth just being happy to supply Minardi, unless Minardi and Cosworth come to an arrangement that sees Cosworth invest in the team both financially and technically (yes please). That's the only way their engine will attract any other future customers.

Are Jordan a one-year only deal with Toyo?

    Yes! Next year there is no more Jordan team.

    Rumors are strong that BMW might dump Williams to continue exclusively with Sauber.
    Maybe Williams wants Cosworth engines,if they can't get anything else.
    I don't see Williams teaming up with Toyota, though !!!!

    BMW and Williams have a contract mate - BMW aren't about to drop Williams cold for Sauber. At worst (for Williams) they'll be sharing supply.

    I can't see anyone on the grid taking Cosworth donks but us.

    Maybe Midland, now that TOIT have elected to go with RB.... but I think it's more likely Toyo will do the deal just to have that cost-amortising second team.

    I think Jordan might be running Cosworths. Dallara are said to have designed their car to fit it. Its unlikely that TOIT will supply 2 customers.
    On the cosworth front, the V8 has already pulled 20 000 rpm on the dyno. Really Cosworth are THE V8 kings.

    But where's the money coming from, with no manufacturer image to uphold, and the customers paying for everything? Even with Minardi, Midland and a mythical new entrant, what does that give them to spend, $50m tops? With lots of ifs and buts that they'd even have that. Compared to manufacturer engine budgets that's pretty meagre, irrespective of the Cosworth heritage and skills base.

    they supply all of Cahmp car, so there is at least 20 cars that use in the states. I think Cossy have planned for this. They aren't that nieve.

    Do champ cars use V8's? I hope we get a contract from somewhere, otherwise we will have to polish off some Hart V8's from the 90's.:(

    Their were rumours that Ferari were to supply Midlan but the news today preety much ends that and I the Toyota deal with Jordan is only for one year so theirs a good posibility that Midland may pick up a cossy next year.

    Just read on GrandPrix.com that Cosworth owner Kevin Kalkhoven flew to Imola today to disscuss next year with Red Bull to find out that the deal with TOIT had been signed, can't imagine him been too happy!!!!

    PS Frank Williams has been quoted as saying that they've spoken to Cosworth about engine supplies.

    The future of Cosworth in F1

    There are some serious implications as a result of the Red Bull Racing deal with Ferrari. Cosworth owner Kevin Kalkhoven flew into Imola on Saturday to have a meeting with Dietrich Mateschitz on the subject only to find that Mateschitz has issued a press statement announcing a two-year deal with Ferrari.

    This announcement meant that Cosworth could end up with only Minardi in 2006 and that means that the project cannot easily be cost-effective. The option is for Cosworth to find another customer (in theory deals could be possible with Jordan and Sauber) or it could try to find an automobile manufacturer which would be willing to underwrite the F1, using Cosworth technology. There are possibilities in Asia although the old world of car-making in Europe and America offers little opportunity as the existing players would either do it themselves or are too weak to make such an investment.

    Funding a V8 design programme is not a problem but going into the production and development phases is where the money will be eaten up and owners Kalkhoven and Gerald Forsythe must either come up the money to keep the project alive or close it down and lose the people. This would be the last resort because it would be hard for the firm to get back to into F1 if it dropped out as it would lose the good people employed in Northampton. If the new owners are serious about F1 they will be willing to fund a V8 programme in the hope that another customer will emerge. There is talk of new teams in 2007 which could be a source of revenue but at the moment things look bleak: Sauber is expected to have a BMW deal. Jordan and Toyota are not thought likely to continue beyond this year and so Midland F1 has to be seen as a potential target. Logic says that Ferrari is a more likely deal for the Russian-owned team but it is not clear whether this can happen for logistical and contractual reasons.
